Congratulations Denver Dojo!

Several members of Denver Dojo traveled to Dallas, TX over the Thanksgiving holiday to compete in the Dallas Invitational Championships, a senior E level event. This tournament drew over 450 competitors from around the US, including several #1 players and Olympians. The Denver Dojo competitors gave it their all and everyone did well.  The team was supported and coached by Scott Moore and Louise Mars.

Bianca Hernandez defeated both of her opponents by ippon to win the novice women’s 63kg category.

Sergey Zilberbort went 2-0 and took a gold medal in the boys 13-14 super heavyweight division.

Sasha Zheleznov went 2-2 and finished 3rd in the senior men 100+kg division.

Gary Cherny fought in the senior men’s 90kg division and finished 4th, going 2-2.

Eugene Lantsman went 2-2 in the senior men’s 60kg division.

Matt Jurjonas won his first match with a beautiful left soto maki komi, but then lost his next two matches in the senior men’s 66kg division.

Alex Zilberbort won his first match but was choked out in the second.  However, he came back to fight hard in a third match. However, he was still feeling the after-effects of the choke and lost this match as well, ending the day 1-2.

Rob Millbrandt’s first match in the men’s 66kg division was against the eventual gold medalist.  Rob ended up 0-2 on the day.

Robert Tanaka finished with a 1-2 record in the junior novice division.
